Literacy and Reading Section Annual Report

During 2018 – 2019 members of the Literacy and Reading Standing Committee focused on the development of Engaging in Literacy and Reading Strategies: An IFLA Toolkit for Libraries. The working group also included members of other IFLA professional units and demonstrates the collaborative nature of the work we undertake. The Toolkit formed the basis of the Standing Committee’s program at the World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) in Athens.

The WLIC also marked changes within the membership of the Literacy and Reading Standing Committee. Members Annie Everall and Lisa Krolak finishing their terms and we thanked them warmly for their contribution. Both will now become Corresponding members of the SC. We welcomed ten new members: Nina Olsson (Sweden), Lucy Green (USA), Anette Mjöberg (Sweden), Jan Richards (Australia), Jenna Spiering (USA), Shari Werb (USA), Andrea Krieg (Germany), Franck Hurinville (France), Elizabeth Jones (New Zealand) and Simonetta Pasqualis dell’Antonio (Italy).

An election for office-bearers was held and I was re-elected as Chair, Atlanta Meyer was returned as Secretary, and Linn T Sunne as Information Coordinator.

During the year there was the opportunity for the Standing Committee to have input into IFLA’s Strategic Framework Process I represented the Standing Committee at the Strategic Framework workshop in The Hague in  with the topic being discussed by members prior to and following the event.
