This week the first United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Culture Summit took place in Bilbao, Spain. Governing Board member Glòria Pérez-Salmerón represented IFLA at the Summit.

A highlight of the Summit was the presentation of "Culture 21: Actions", a document that builds on the Agenda 21 for Culture that makes a strong link between culture and sustainable development, and recommends further expertise, peer-learning, and exchanges. 

The Summit took place while negotiations on the UN post-2015 development agenda continue towards a conclusion in September 2015. The stressed the importance of culture in this framework to support the realisation of development goals.

The Summit continues the work of the Culture Coalition, of which IFLA is a member.
