The IFLA Knowledge Management (KM) Section is seeking proposals for papers to be presented during the KM Open Session at the IFLA World Library and Information Congress in Cape Town, South Africa 15-21, August 2015 (exact date of the open session to be announced later).
The Lyon Declaration was launched at the IFLA congress in Lyon in August 2014. It recognizes that access to information and the skills to use it effectively are required for sustainable development. The KM Open Session will provide an opportunity to share projects that support the goals of the Lyon declaration and address the ways in which KM is being used to make the future open.
The IFLA KM Section provides an international platform for professional communication and understanding of the significance of KM for libraries. It gives a voice to KM on a global scale and follows the developments in KM, promoting its practical implementation within the global library community.
Papers presenting innovative projects, experience, initiatives or services with a strong collaborative cross-border or international dimension are preferred. Papers should reflect the 2015 IFLA Cape Town conference theme “Dynamic Libraries: Access, Development and Transformation”.
- The impacts of leadership sustainable decision making using the KM tools;
- The impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for shaping a sustainable Information Society;
- The role of a stable and quality-assured Open Access publishing system for supporting not only to scholarship but also to society as a whole;
- The ways to encourage networks and partnership evaluation to understand how ICT contributes to a sustainable development; and
- The relationship between path dependency, change and sustainability.

Proposals for the KM IFLA Open Session must be submitted by 20 February 2015 and should clearly include:
- Title of the proposed presentation,
- Abstract of proposed paper, no more than 300 words, in English
- Curriculum vitae of the author(s),
- Contact details and professional affiliation(s).
The abstracts will be reviewed by Programme Committee members of the Knowledge Management Section.

Selected presenters will be notified by 15 March 2015.
- should be 3000-6000 words in length and be an original submission not published elsewhere,
- must be submitted as formal papers for inclusion on the IFLA conference website by 1 May 2015,
- accepted papers and accompanying presentation slides must be submitted by the 1 July 2015,
- accepted papers should be submitted with a one-page abstract in English,
- final papers should be written in any of IFLA's official languages,
- the papers will be made available on the Conference website and eventually in the IFLA Library,
- in accordance with IFLA’s Statement on Open Access all papers that are presented at the WLIC 2015 will be made available under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported (CC BY 3.0) license.
Presentation at the Conference
A maximum of 20 minutes will be allowed for the presentation of each paper during the Section's Open Session in Cape Town. Please note, although every effort will be made to provide simultaneous interpretation into other IFLA languages, interpretation may not be available. Therefore presenters should use a PowerPoint in English to facilitate understanding of the ideas presented.
All proposals must be in before 20 February 2015.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
