Call for Papers — Open Session

Theme: “Local History and Genealogy Collection Classification, Preservation, Sharing, and Access Practices of Local Regional, and International Libraries and Institutions” 

IFLA’s Local History and Genealogy Section, with the Indigenous Matters Section and the Rare Books and Special Collections Section, invite you to submit a proposal for its Open Session at the 86th IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2020 in Dublin, Ireland, 15-21 August.

We welcome your submissions relating to this year’s theme of “Local History and Genealogy Collection Classification, Preservation, Sharing, and Access Practices of Local Regional, and International Libraries and Institutions.”                   

We invite presentations using evidence-based practice and deep analysis of projects which can potentially be used by others.

 

 

The theme will include, but is not limited to, best practices in:

· Digital inclusion: using digital technology to increase engagement with collections amongst diverse communities and help to have open access of the collections.

· The effect of the communities’ engagement in preservation and digitization.

· The challenge of discoverability of printed and digital records

· The challenge of cataloging standards and the need for creating new standards and some type of templates.

· Funding opportunities and support of Genealogy groups and organizations.

 

 

Submission Guidelines

The deadline for submitting an abstract (up to 250 words) and full author details (name, professional affiliation, postal address, email address) is March 3rd, 2020.  Please make sure that all submitted summary and final presentation material are original, previously unpublished work.

 

 

Important dates

3 March 2020: Submission of abstract

1 April 2020: Notification of acceptance to author(s)

1 June 2020:  Submission of full paper

Please note the following guidelines:

Selection of papers is based on the detailed summary, and all will be notified by April 1st, 2020. Completed papers must be submitted no later than June 1st 2020.

If a proposal is accepted, it is required that at least one of the paper’s authors must be present to present the paper during the main IFLA conference in August in Ireland. Abstract should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/ presenter(s) of accepted papers.

Presented papers will be made available online via the IFLA website under the Creative Commons Attribution.

Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Author’s Permission form

All expenses, including registration for conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
