UN Commission on Social Development

Strategies for eradicating poverty to achieve sustainable development for all

29 January – 7 February 2018

New York, United States

IFLA will be represented by Past President Donna Scheeder

The 56th session of the United Nations Commission on Social Development is the main forum for looking at the social aspects of development policies across the board. With a specific focus on the eradication of poverty - Sustainable Development Goal 1 - the Commission provides valuable input to the broader Agenda 2030 process.

Former IFLA President Donna Scheeder will be discussing the role that libraries play in development for all, across the board. At a time when awareness of the downsides of connectivity has never been higher, libraries can make the difference in ensuring that access to information is a reality - and an advantage - for everyone.
