Yesterday at the Presidential Palace, Athens, Greece, IFLA President Glòria Pérez-Salmerón and IFLA Secretary General Gerald Leitner met with Prokopis Pavlopoulos, President of the Hellenic Republic, to discuss the congress.

The Greek President is enthusiastically supportive of IFLA WLIC 2019 and has agreed to deliver the welcome speech to congress delegates on 25 August 2019. With this exciting news, IFLA is honoured and looking forward to receiving the President at our congress in Athens.

President Pavlopoulos told IFLA President and IFLA Secretary General: “It is a privilege for our country to host the IFLA Congress 2019 in Athens.”

The IFLA WLIC is the international flagship professional and trade event for the entire library and information services sector. Each congress requires extensive planning, creativity and development to deliver a unique experience for participants. None of this would be possible without the strong partnership and support from our host country.
