IFLA would like to congratulate the Chair of CLM Committee, Winston Tabb, on his recent appointment to the National Museum and Library Services Board (NMLSB) in the United States.

NMLSB

The NMLSB is an advisory body that includes the director and deputy directors of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and twenty presidentialy appointed and Senate-confirmed members of the general public who have demonstrated expertise in, or commitment to, library or museum services. Winston was nominated to the board by President Obama in January and is one of five new individuals confirmed by the Senate to serve as an advisor to the IMLS on general policy and practices, and on selections for the National Medal for Museum and Library Service.

Johns Hopkins

Winston is the Sheridan dean of Libraries and Museums at Johns Hopkins University where he directs the integration of new information technologies throughout the university’s libraries and leads and coordinates the University’s entire system of libraries. In addition to his extensive involvement in other US libraries, he was also previously Associate Librarian of Congress for Library Services.

IFLA

During his time as a member of IFLA, Winston has been involved at all levels of IFLA governance, including a period as Chair of IFLA’s Professional Board where he played a leading role in the redevelopment of the IFLA professional structure. He has been involved in raising IFLA’s profile at the Conference of Directors of National Libraries and since 2005 he has been the Chair of IFLA’s CLM Committee where his leadership at WIPO has been outstanding and instrumental in getting library issues onto the international copyright agenda.
