Invitation for Expressions of Interest from potential host countries for the 12th International Congress on Medical Librarianship (ICML) 2017 - 12th International Congress on Medical Librarianship

The first ICML was held in London by leaders from medical libraries not long after World War II. Around this period the Armed Forces Medical Library (USA) was being transformed and would eventually become the National Library of Medicine in 1956. Topics included library education, administration and operations, the high costs of journals and the history of medicine. UNESCO had established an international exchange of publications in medical libraries which was helping those countries impacted by war to re-establish medical library services. At the inaugural meeting the “difficult state of libraries in Asia, Africa, Australia and Latin America was of great concern”.

Call for papers : Health and Bioscience Libraries - Satellite Meeting 2013

HBS Section Satellite Session 2013 The Standing Committee of the Health and Biosciences Section regret to announce that we have decided not to go ahead with the section’s satellite session this year. The reason we have decided not to go ahead with the meeting is that the response to the call for papers was very disappointing. We would not have nearly enough papers for a full meeting. We are also aware of people’s travel plans and realise that many members who usually attend IFLA will not be there this year. Economic factors are the primary reason given. We would like to thank those who did prepare abstracts for this session and to everyone who helped in preparing and distributing the call for papers. The section is planning to hold a satellite meeting at the 2014 conference. Sincerely, Brian Galvin Chair, IFLA HBS Section Call for papers – Satellite Session Friday 16th August 2013, Theme: Establishing the librarian in the health research process.
