Voluntary National Reviews offer a great opportunity to highlight how libraries are contributing to national development goals. IFLA’s latest briefing looks at the particular value of National Library engagement.

Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) are the process that sees around 50 countries a year present about their progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to their peers at the United Nations.

To prepare these, governments should both draw on examples of work being done so far, consulting with as wide a variety of stakeholders as possible, and set out plans for the future.

National libraries have a particular potential to contribute to this work, with benefits for themselves, governments, and the library field as a whole.

Our latest brief explains how.
